未經準備;未加思索;即興地

在十一月第一星期出版的Time magazine 裏有一篇關於美國總統Donald Trump 提到前美國總統奧巴馬的醫療改革方案時,特朗普特別提到:

Obamacare is finished, he said in off-the-cuff remarks before the cabinet meeting…..

意思是指當特朗普提到奧巴馬的醫療改革漫不經心地評論說:該改革已經完了!

另外一個例子:

I hadn’t prepared a speech so I just said a few words off the cuff.

意思即是我没準備發言,所以就隨便說了幾句。

單詞cuff 用在名詞時可解作䄂口或手銬。但用在動詞時可解釋為為他人戴上手銬或開玩笑地輕拍他人。
