Mob /mɒb/

暴民,一群上街的怒民,黨羽

英國BBC 廣播電台有一則關於伊朗的報導,其中標題是:

The Iranian Revolution : Chilling snapshots of a lynch mob

Lynch mob 是一對常用在一起的相連字。意思是指一羣上街執行私刑的暴民。

例如:30 people were killed in the 2 days of mob violence 在兩日的暴民騷亂中死了三十人

有時在不正式的嚴肅用語時,只是指一班有共同目的一羣人,不一定含負面指有暴力倾向的人羣。例如: The usual mob was hanging out at the pub. 一班常聚的人在酒吧中流連

當mob 在用作動詞時,大部分時候都用在被動式上,例如:

They were mobbed by the fans when they arrived at the theatre. 當他們到達劇院的時候,遭到一羣擁躉暴力對待。

當一羣雀鳥或動物聚在一起羣起攻擊外來的入侵動物或到來獵物時,這種抵抗式的攻擊也可將mob 作為動詞來用。
