Whisk /(h)wisk /

Verb or Noun 動詞或名詞

作為動詞,whisk 是快速拿走某東西或某人的意思。大部分時間都會用在Phrasal verb 的方式。

香港南華早報South China Morning Post 一段報導某中國人早上被邀請往一會議期間,突然間九點正便被國家反貪腐部門的調查人員帶走。

…… showed up at 9am, he was whisked away by investigators from the ruling Communist Party’s anti-corruption commission.

該報記者用上whisked away, 而不是一般的taken away, 是指出被帶走的情況是很突然的。

至於whisk away 某些東西也是掃除走的意思,例如︰

Our coffees were whisked away by the waiter before we had even finished them.

我們的咖啡在我們還未喝完已經被侍應拿走了。

Whisk用作動詞時也是攪打的意思,特別是攪打蛋漿和忌廉。

Please whisk the egg white until it becomes stiff.

請把蛋清攪打至變稠。

於是,廚房用的攪伴器我們便稱作whisk, 用作名詞。

Whiskbroom也可用作中國人的掃帚,而whisk 就是掃拂塵埃的意思。

Whiskers 並不是掃除東西的人,而是指那些又硬又直的鬍鬚。所以貓兒的鬍鬚是whiskers 呢!
