2017年很快便會過去了，美國CNN記者在評論世界各領袖們面對怎樣的一年提及:

It has been a turbulent year for most leaders across the globe, and while some benefited from 2017’s geopolitical twists and turns, others suffered a series of setbacks.

意思是指世界各地的領袖們經歷了起伏不定的一年，有些在迂迴曲折的全球政治中獲得利益，卻有些在一連串的挫折中受到傷害。

Twists and turns 這一常用的片語是泛指在該情況中充滿了迂迴曲折，並不坦然順暢。

例如: While prospects are bright, there are still twists and turns.

縱使前途是光明的，前面還有很多迂迴曲折的情況。

Twist 還有其他的用法，用作動詞時我們會用在扭傷腳踝的時候，那我們會說: twist the ankle

Twist 有時也會用作扭曲意思， 例如 :

You are twisting my words, that is not totally what I mean at all.

你扭曲了我的詞語的含意，那完全不是我的原來意思。

Twist 用在名詞是有轉折的意思，例如:

There is an unexpected twist in the plot towards the end of the film.

在戲中接近尾段的時候出現了意想不到的轉折情節。
